MCLA wins fifth straight at Elms 2-0

Chicopee, MA- Brianna Bresett and Jess Tietgens both scored early in the second half to propel the MCLA Women's Soccer program to their fifth straight win, as the Trailblazers went on the road and defeated Elms College 2-0.  With the victory, MCLA is now 6-2-2 overall, while Elms drops to 2-9.

After a scoreless opening period, Bresett put MCLA on the board five minutes into the second frame when she picked up a loose ball in front of the net and tapped into to the right side of the goal giving the Trailblazers a 1-0 advantage.   The goal was Bresett's third this season.

Eleven minutes later, MCLA extended its lead to 2-0 when Samantha Miller (Reading, Mass.) sent a pass to Tietgens (Stamford, Vt.) who beat the defense for a breakaway goal up the middle of the field.  It was the MASCAC leading scorer's ninth goal of the season.

Elms' Kelly Callahan made seven of her nine saves in the second stanza to keep the deficit at two, but Elms was limited to just five shots in the second half.

Elms' freshman midfielder Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) each blasted three shots on net, but nine saves from MCLA net minder Jen Wehner kept the Blazers off the board.

The shutout was Wehner's fourth of the season and she ran her scoreless streak to 360 minutes.

Miller and Lindsay Borbolla (Greenwich, N.Y.) each placed three shots on goal in the winning effort for the Trailblazers.

MCLA will face Framingham State on Saturday in MASCAC action.
