Team effort propels MCLA to seventh straigh win at UMass-Dartmouth 3-0

Dartmouth, MA- MCLA recieved goals from three different players, while Jen Wehner and Kate Tsapatsaris combined on a shutout, as the Trailblazers won their seventh straight game, 3-0 at UMass-Dartmouth this afternoon.  With the win, MCLA improved to 8-2-2, while UMass-Dartmouth falls to 3-10.

The Corsairs had an early scoring opportunity but failed to capitalize. Freshmen defender Erin Linsenbigler (Suffield, CT/Suffield HS) placed a ball to freshmen forward Tori Pierce (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton HS) in the Trailblazers zone, who fired a shot off the left goal post, keeping the score 0-0 with 33:00 remaining in the first half.

With 5:42 left in the first half, MCLA put their first point on the scoreboard. Senior forward Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT/Drury HS) blasted a shot, which Corsairs senior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) blocked, but the loose ball trickled away from Braga and onto the foot of junior forward Jackie Nash (Norton, MA/Norton HS), who chipped the ball over Braga and into the net, giving the Trailblazers a 1-0 lead.

MCLA increased their lead to 2-0 just five minutes into the second half. Following a Corsair possession, junior goalkeeper Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown HS) booted a goal kick into the UMD zone. Tietgens gathered the ball and dribbled towards the goal and delivered a shot into the back left corner, making it 2-0 Trailblazers with 39:41 left to play. 

The Trailblazers' final goal came off a direct kick opportunity with 29:07 on the clock. Junior defender Lauren Ford (Voorheesville, NY/Berne-Knox-Westerlo HS) booted a direct kick towards the Corsair goal, and sophomore forward Lindsay Borbolla (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central HS) headed the ball over Braga and into the back of the goal, securing the 3-0 victory for MCLA.

The Trailblazers outshot the Corsairs, 15-10. Braga made four saves for UMD while Wehner and sophomore goalkeeper Kate Tsapatsaris (Peabody, MA/Peabody Veterans Memorial HS) each recorded two and one saves respectively.
