MCLA battles Hamilton to double OT 0-0 tie

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer program opened the 2010 season by battling visiting Hamilton College to a 0-0 Double OT result.  Both teams played a bit timid in the opener for both squads.

MCLA had a great opportunity just a few minutes into the contest as all time leading scorer Jess Tietgens broke free.  Hamilton keeper Hailey Bobin was forced to come out and attack on the play.  The move paid off as she was able to deflect the shot away, keeping the game scoreless early.

Hamilton would come on strong following Bobin's play, outshooting the Trailblazers the remainder of the first half by a 12-4 margin.  MCLA keeper Jen Wehner notched six first half saves, with only a couple coming from close range.

Both sides continued the defensive minded approach in the second half.  Each team was awaiting a defensive miscue before attacking.  Hamilton owned a decisive second half advantage, especially in shots.  In fact, MCLA did not even attempt a shot until the second overtime.

Although the shots were unbalanced, almost all of Hamilton's chances were very low percentage or long range shots.

Each team traded potential game winning plays in the final OT period.  MCLA would mount a couple of scoring opportunities following a Hamilton foul and a corner kick.  Wehner would stymie any Hamilton opportunities by tallying three saves in the extra sessions.

For the game, Wehner would total 12 saves for the afternoon, logging all 110 minutes.  Hamilton's Bobin would play the first half recording three saves, while Liza Gergenti would play the last 65 minutes making a pair of saves.

MCLA is back in action on Monday as they host Smith College at Noon.
