Tietgens scores a pair, but MCLA drops tough 3-2 decision to Castleton

Castleton, VT- MCLA senior Jess Tietgens scored her first two goals of the season, but it was not enough as the Trailblazers fell to host Castleton State 3-2.  MCLA falls to 1-2-1 on the season.  Castleton's Megan Blongy netted the game winner with just over 3:00 minutes to play in regulation for the game winner.

Blongy's goal was her third of the season off a Kelly Gerken assist, striking a rocket just inside the nearside post.  Blongy earlier appeared to break the 2-2 tie about ten minutes earlier, however her goal was disallowed due to an offsides call.

Tietgens got MCLA off to a strong start as she poked one home just six minutes into the game to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 advantage.  Samantha Miller assisted on the play, lofting a pass that Tietgens outran the Spartan defense too and sent a shot that deflected off Castleton keeper Ericka Davis for her first of the season.

Castleton would rally and notch a pair of first half goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime scoring in the 21st and 23rd minutes.

Tietgens would score her second in the 73rd minute, converting a Danielle Parenteau pass to tie the game at 2-2.

MCLA sophomore keeper Kate Tsapatsaris got her first collegiate start and collected five saves on the night.  Davis turned away six for Castleton.

MCLA is back in action Saturday when they host Worcester State University at 1pm.  Prior to kickoff, MCLA will hold a flag raising ceremony in honor of alumna Sarah Lapine.
