Late Rally falls short as MCLA falls to Bard 3-2 in Women's Soccer

North Adams, MA- The visiting Bard College Raptors used an Alana Shaw hat trick while holding on for a hard fought 3-2 victory over MCLA at Shewcraft Field this afternoon.  The win moved Bard to 1-3, while MCLA falls to 0-3 on the season.

Shaw put the Raptors up early as MCLA keeper Jen Wehner got caught out of position leaving Shaw with a wide open net.  She calmly knocked it home for a 1-0 lead just 3:30 into the game.  The Trailblazers would find the equalizer though when freshman Rebecca Pike rebounded a Lauren Fender shot off a free kick to knot the score.  Pike's tally came in the 20th minute and the match stayed that way until halftime.

Shaw continued to be a force up front in the second half scoring in the 56th minute after Valeriana Dema's header was put on goal.  Shaw would tally again just 1:43 later taking a beautiful through pass from Perry Scheetz to beat Wehner for a commanding 3-1 edge.

The Trailblazers would not fold though.  Freshmen Justin Cozza took Kasie Harrington pass off a free kick and belted it home to trim the lead to 3-2 in the 79th minute.  MCLA, however, could not find the equalizer off Bard keeper Jenn Osher.

Osher finished with 3 saves to earn the win.  Wehner was spectacular in net for MCLA making numerous stops from close range to keep the Trailblazers in the match.  She would finish with 18 saves.

Bard outshot MCLA 32-11 while owning a 6-1 edge in corners.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they host Castleon at 4pm.
