MCLA drops non league matchup to Castleton 3-1

North Adams, MA- A pair of first half goals from sophomore forward Kelsey Garceau pushed visiting Castleton State past host MCLA 3-1 this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  With the setback, MCLA is now 0-4 heading into league play, while Castleton improves to 4-2 with the victory.

Garceau netted her first of the day in the 11th minute taking a Kelsey Lenney pass to beat MCLA keeper Jen Wehner giving Castleton a quick 1-0 advantage.  She would tally again at 27:13, this time taking a Courtney Chadburn cross and knocking it home for a 2-0 lead.

MCLA would immediately respond however, when just 38 seconds later Lauren Ford headed home a Rachel Niddrie cross to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.

The Trailblazers could not mount much offense against the Spartans defense in the second half managing only one shot.  Castleton would put the game away in the 72nd minute when Kayla Rogers redirected a Lucia Sforza cross to make it 3-1.

Wehner would stop 12 shots for MCLA, while Castleton keeper Ericka Davis collected a pair of saves.  The Spartans outshot MCLA 26-5 on the afternoon.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Worcester State for a 3pm kickoff.
