Bresett's double overtime tally lifts MCLA past Elms 2-1

Bresett's double overtime tally lifts MCLA past Elms 2-1

North Adams, MA- Brianna Bresett scored in the second overtime to lift MCLA to a 2-1 non conference victory over Elms College this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 4-6-1, while Elms falls to 3-4-3.

Bresett scored in the 102nd minute when Lauren Ford took a direct kick and sent it into the box where Bresett was all alone.  She easily beat Elms keeper Ashley LaFountain for the game winner.

Each team had an opportunity in the first overtime off corner kicks, but could not tally the game winner.

MCLA's Brianna Dandurant tallied in the 47th minute off a nice over the top pass from Rachel Niddrie for a 1-0 advantage.  Elms would rally late though, tallying off a penalty kick after Jennifer Killion was taken down in the box.  Leah Spring converted the kick to tie the game.

Elms would waste a golden opportunity in regulation when another Blazer player was taken down in the box.  Spring would once again take the kick, however MCLA keeper Jen Wehner would stop the chance with three minutes to go.

The opening period saw both sides with scoring chances.  Elms' best opportunity came off a corner kick that was loose in the near side, but was eventually cleared by the Trailblazer defense.  MCLA saw a couple of chances where they went over the top of the Elms defense but couldn't find the back of the net.  Each team had eight shots in the opening period.

Wehner stopped 13 shots to earn the win, while LaFountain absorbed the loss.  LaFountain replaced Hayley Zisk in the 72nd minute, who stopped 8 shots on the afternoon.

Elms held a slight 21-18 shot advantage over MCLA.

MCLA returns to action this weekend when they host Framingham in a pivotal MASCAC matchup at 1pm on Saturday.
