Stannard's Last second goal lifts MCLA past Sage 1-0

Stannard's Last second goal lifts MCLA past Sage 1-0

Glenmont, NY-  MCLA freshman Janelle Stannard scored with 7 seconds left in double overtime to lift the Trailblazers past the Sage College Gators1-0 in a non conference matchup.  The golden goal was the first of her collegiate career.  MCLA improves to 5-7-1 while Sage falls to 5-6 on the season.

Stannard converted off a Christina Klich feed to give MCLA their second double overtime victory of the season.  They previously knocked off Elms College in double overtime.

Both teams had their chances in both regulation and the first overtime period before the only goal was tallied in the 109th minute.

MCLA's senior goalie Jen Wehner (Hartwick, NY/Cooperstown) collected the shutout win as she made a pair of saves and improves to 5-7-1 in goal with three shutouts.

Prior to the contest, Sage honored their 2011 seniors, goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) and forward Rebecca Marszalek (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley). McDonald had 12 saves in the contest and drops to 4-5 in goal this fall.

The Trailblazers will look to build off the win when they travel to MASCAC front runner Fitchburg State Saturday at 6pm.
