MCLA can't keep pace with Westfield in 3-0 defeat

North Adams, MA- The visiting Westfield State Owls controlled play throughout the afternoon en route to a 3-0 MASCAC victory over MCLA at Shewcraft Field.  The Owls outshot the Trailblazers 46-6 on the afternoon.

With the setback, the Trailblazers are now 6-8-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the league.  Westfield earns a key victory in moving to 12-3-1 overall, including a 4-2 mark in conference play.

The Owls took control from the onset blistering MCLA keeper Jen Wehner.  Leann Rivard opened the scoring beating Wehner off a Brittanie McGregor cross for a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game.  Wehner would keep Westfield scoreless throughout the remainder of the half even though she faced 23 shots.

Kayley Miller would knock home a feed from Sarah Sypek for a 2-0 advantage in the 52nd minute.  McGregor would round out her day by adding the final tally, taking a Rivard cross and knocking it home.

Wehner was spectacular in defeat stopping numerous shots from close range.  Jess Habif and Nicky Stasz combined on the shutout for Westfield with Habif stopping five shots on the day.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Mount Holyoke.
