MCLA surrenders late goal in road loss to Castleton
Castleton, VT- The MCLA Trailblazers fell on the road to Castleton State 2-1 this evening at Spartan Stadium. Sami Ritter scored both second half goals, including the game winner in the 86th minute.
MCLA falls to 1-3 with the loss heading into their MASCAC opener on Saturday as they host Salem State. The Spartans improve to 3-2-1.
Jennifer Ferrari tallied her fourth goal in the last two games blasting a shot from the top of the box in the 57th minute to give MCLA a 1-0 lead. Castleton would answer almost immediately as Ritter would take a cross from Kelsey Garceau and knot the score in the 60th minute.
The game would remain tied into the 86th minute when Ritter would strike again. She took a pass from Mallory Costello in front of the net and beat MCLA keeper Danielle Heinsohn with just three minutes to play. MCLA would not get a shot off over the final three minutes.
Spartan keeper Sarah Shilstone stopped six shots to earn the win while Heinsohn stopped 19 shots for the Trailblazers.
Castleton outshot MCLA 39-11 on the evening and held an 11-2 edge in corners.
