MCLA drops double overtime heartbreaker to WNE 2-1

North Adams, MA- Western New England University's Tayler Mazurski tallied a pair of goals, including the game winner in double overtime, to lead the Golden Bears to a hard fought 2-1 victory over MCLA.  With the win, WNE evens its mark at 7-7-1, while the Trailblazers drop to 5-7 overall.

Following a scoreless first half, the visitors broke through in the 57th minute when Mazurski took a Rachel Suntag ball in front of the net where she fired a rocket at MCLA's Danielle Heinsohn.  Heinsohn got her hands on the shot, however it just slipped past the goal line for a 1-0 edge.

It looked as if the marker would hold up as MCLA couldn't find the back of the net.  That changed in the 83rd minute when Jennifer Ferrari scored off her own rebound.  Her shot in the box was initially stopped by Briana Kubik, but the rebound went right back to Ferrari, who converted her team leading 7th goal of the season.

In the first overtime, neither team seriously threatened which set up Mazurski's game winner.  Following a change of possession at midfield, WNE's Sarah Marois sent a through ball to Mazurski.  MCLA's Heinsohn attempted to come off the line to get the ball, however she was a bit late, which allowed Mazurski an open net for the victory.  The marker was her 5th of the season.

Western New England owned a 21-8 shot advantage and an 8-2 edge in corners.

Kubik stopped four shots for the Golden Bears to earn the win.  Heinsohn stopped 7 shots for MCLA in absorbing the loss.

MCLA will be back in action on Saturday night when they travel to Westfield State for a 6pm kickoff.
