Senior Day rally comes up short in double overtime against Worcester 3-2

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer team rallied from a two goal deficit in the second half, only to surrender the game winner in double overtime as they lost 3-2 to the visiting Worcester State Lancers this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  MCLA wraps up the regular season with a mark of 7-10 (2-5 MASCAC), while Worcester finishes up at 8-7-2 (5-1-1 MASCAC).

Both teams have qualified for next week's MASCAC postseason tournament.  MCLA will be the sixth seed, while the Lancers are the second seed and will recieve a bye.

Worcester State took command in the opening half as Gaby Gonet knocked home her 10th goal of the season off a feed from Amanda Pruyn in the 26th minute to give the Lancers the early lead.  Worcester would strike again in the 41st minute when Margo Clifford belted home a loose ball off an Alicia Macomber corner kick.  The goal was her first of the season and the 2-0 Lancer lead went into halftime.

The second half got off to a positive start for MCLA when Jennifer Ferrari blasted a shot to the upper right corner off a Kasie Harrington assist to cut the margin in half with 35 minutes remaining.  The score remained that way until the final minute when Ferrari would strike again.

This time, the junior took a Brianna Dandurant ball and rifled a shot from outside the box that beat Worcester keeper Mia Koutoulas again in the upper right corner with just 42 seconds left in regulation.  The tally was her 10th of the season.

In overtime, Worcester squandered a pair of chances in the first OT, but scored the golden goal just 2:36 into the second.  Macomber scored the winner as she blasted a bounding shot that bounced past Trailblazer keeper Danielle Heinsohn to give the Lancers the hard fought victory.

Heinsohn was spectacular in net for MCLA stopping 16 shots on the afternoon to keep the Trailblazers in it.  Her counterpart Koutoulas, earned the win stopping 3 shots.

Worcester owned a commanding 30-12 shot advantage, including 6-0 in the overtime frames.

MCLA will now travel to Bridgewater State to face the Bears in the MASCAC quarterfinals on Wednesday.  Game time will be announced on Sunday.  The Lancers have earned a bye, and will not play until the semifinal round on Friday.

Prior to the contest beginning, MCLA paid tribute to the eight seniors appearing in their final home game.  They are Brianna Dandurant, Kasie Harrington, Kate Tsapatsaris, Hailee Pasa, Keisha Devoe, Lindsay Borbolla, Tina Klich, and Lauren Fender.
