Trailblazers fall to Castleton in Women's Soccer 4-1

North Adams, MA- Castleton State used three second half goals to pull away from the MCLA as the Spartans handed the Trailblazers their third straight loss 3-1 this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  Castleton improves to 3-2 on the season while MCLA falls to 1-3.

The Spartans received a pair of goals from Allison Vachon and three assists from Mallory Costello.

Castleton controlled play in the second half outshooting the Trailblazers 10-3 in the half.  After the score was knotted at 1 at halftime, Castleton tallied in the 64th minute.  Nicole Wershoven scored the game winner taking the first of Costello's assists to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.  The back breaker was scored just 48 seconds later when Vachon scored her second of the day, this time using a thru ball from Costello to put Castleton up 3-1.

Kaileen Banks added the final tally as she converted a loose ball of the foot of Costello to provide the final margin.

MCLA wasted no time in getting on the board.  After sending the opening kickoff deep into the Castleton side that resulted in a corner kick.  Trailblazer freshman Kayla Lingel played a high floating corner into the box that Jen Ferrari headed home just 32 seconds into the game giving MCLA a quick 1-0 lead.  The Trailblazers had a few chances to extend as Ferrari and Natalie Caney shot high from close range in the opening minutes.

The Spartans did net the equalizer in the 12th minute.  Nicole Gay took a direct kick from about 40 yards out and sent it into the box.  After a loose scramble, Vachon corralled the ball and beat Danielle Heinsohn to the lower right corner to tie the score.

Jessica Binkowski earned the win stopping four shots for Castleton.  Heinsohn was tabbed with the loss as she made 11 saves on the afternoon.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they host Elms at 1pm.
