Caney's OT goal lifts Trailblazers past Albany Pharmacy 2-1

Caney's OT goal lifts Trailblazers past Albany Pharmacy 2-1

Albany, NY- Trailblazer freshman Natalie Caney scored the game winning goal just one minute into overtime lifting MCLA past Albany College of Pharmacy 2-1 this afternoon.  With the win, the Trailblazers even their mark at 3-3 while ACP dropped their first decision of the year as they fall to 3-1-1.

Caney scored the golden goal just 1:14 into extra time.  MCLA took the overtime kickoff and quickly moved into the ACP box.  Jen Ferrari then ripped a shot that ACP keeper Amy Jagareski stopped, however the rebound went right to Caney who knocked home her fourth goal of the season to cinch the Trailblazer win.

Although MCLA owned a commanding 20-7 shot advantage, it was ACP who got on the board first.  Sarah Cope converted a Kayli Smith through pass and beat MCLA's Danielle Heinsohn to give the hosts a 1-0 edge in the 22nd minute.  The score remained that way into halftime, however MCLA quickly evened things up.

Just 47 seconds into the second half, MCLA freshman Jackie Dwyer collected a loose ball and drove it home to knot the score at 1 all.  The goal was the first of her young career.  MCLA would have numerous chances to take the lead, but Jagareski would keep the score tied until Caney's game winner.

Danielle Heinsohn earned the victory stopping the only other shot on net.  Jagareski was tested often, stopping 9 shots for ACP.

MCLA will be back in action on Saturday when they open MASCAC play at home against Worcester State.
