Trailblazer women tripped up in MASCAC opener by Worcester 2-1

North Adams, MA- The visiting Worcester State Lancers tallied the game winning goal in the 73rd minute to upend the MCLA Trailblazers in the MASCAC opener for both schools this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  The Lancers improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.  MCLA falls to 3-4, 0-1 in MASCAC play.

The Lancers took the early lead when Gaby Gonet played a perfect through ball to Kelsey Cartwright, who beat Danielle Heinsohn for a 1-0 Worcester lead in the 19th minute.  Gonet almost put Worcester on the board minutes earlier when her header caught the crossbar.

The 1-0 edge held up til halftime.  Early in the second half, MCLA found the equalizer.  Jackie Dwyer fed Natalie Caney, and the freshman's team leading fifth goal tied the game in the 50th minute.  The Lancers, however, would keep up the pressure and eventually pull ahead.

In the 73rd minute, Shelby Archer tallied an unassisted goal beating Heinsohn to the lower left corner for the game winner.  Her goal made a winner out of Lancer net minder Jillian Witkowski who stopped three shots to earn the win.

Heinsohn stopped five shots for the Trailblazers.  Worcester held a commanding 20-4 shot advantage on the afternoon.

MCLA will battle Sage this week in Non Conference action.
