Caney's hat trick leads MCLA as Trailblazers shutout SUNYIT 4-0

Marcy, NY- The MCLA Women's Soccer team recieved a hat trick from freshman Natalie Caney while Rebecca Pike added a goal as the Trailblazers blitzed SUNYIT in the second half en route to a 4-0 victory this evening.  With the win, MCLA evens its mark at 4-4 while the Wildcats drop to 1-6 on the season.

After a balanced and scoreless first half, MCLA began to take charge in the closing half.  Caney, the reigning MASCAC rookie of the week, scored just two minutes into the half after she took the ball away from a Wildcat defender and beat keeper Margaret Werenczek for a 1-0 lead.  She would then convert a Justine Cozza pass just eight minutes later making it 2-0 in favor of MCLA.

Pike would then score her first of the season in the 66th minute, before Caney completed the hat trick, netting her eighth goal of the season to provide the final margin.  MCLA outshot SUNYIT 11-7 on afternoon.

Danielle Heinsohn stopped the only two shots she saw, combining with Kathryn Daly to record the shutout win.

The Trailblazers will travel to MASCAC rival Salem State on Saturday in a key matchup starting at 2:30pm.
