Women's Soccer blanked by Westfield 3-0
North Adams, MA- The visiting Westfield State Owls recieved a goal and an assist from Ashleigh Chretien in a 3-0 win over the MCLA Trailblazers at Shewcraft field. With the win, the Owls improve to 8-5 overall, but more importantly 4-1 in the conference. MCLA drops to 6-9 overall and is at 1-4 in the MASCAC.
Chretien ignited the scoring as she passed a thru ball to Sarah Sypek in the 22nd minute. Sypek easily beat MCLA's Danielle Heinsohn to the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead. MCLA would have chances to answer in the opening half, none better than leading scorer Natalie Caney's attempt from in close that just went wide. The score would remain 1-0 at halftime.
The Owls took over in the second half outshooting MCLA 13-5 in the period. Chretien would score in the 46th minute as she sent a shot from just outside the box at Heinsohn who got an outstretched hand on it, but it caught the crossbar and went in for a 2-0 lead.
Ali Blanchette would round out the scoring for Westfield as she knocked home a direct kick in the 65th minute to provide the final score.
Westfield outshot MCLA 26-12 on the afternoon and held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
Heinsohn was challenged all day and stopped 14 shots. Jess Habif made 3 saves for Westfield State.
MCLA is back in action on Friday when they host Bridgewater in their final home game of the season.
