Caney sweeps MASCAC Weekly awards

MASCAC Weekly Women's Soccer release

North Adams, MA- Trailblazer women's soccer freshman Natalie Caney swept the weekly MASCAC awards this afternoon, taking home player and rookie of the week honors.  Caney shared the player of the week award with Amanda Grant of Westfield State.

The player of the week honor is the first this season for Caney, however the talented freshman has taken home top rookie honors an astounding five times.

Caney sparked a second half rally against rival Bridgewater State on Friday scoring three second half goals to lead MCLA past the Bears 4-1.  It was her third hat trick this season and she has tied the conference lead in goals scored with 16, alongside Framingham's Marisa Parent.

The 16 goals is just one shy of the MCLA freshman record of 17 set by Roberta Smith back in 1987.  Caney and the Trailblazers earned the key victory and are now in position to secure a postseason berth in the MASCAC championships with a win over Mass. Maritime on Saturday.
