Women's Soccer shutout by visiting Salem State 4-0

North Adams, MA- The visiting Salem State women's soccer team received goals from four different players as they defeated the MCLA Trailblazers 4-0 this afternoon at Shewcraft Field. With the win, the Vikings improve to 4-1-2 on the season and are now 2-0 in the MASCAC. MCLA falls to 2-6-1 overall, and is 0-2 in conference play.
Salem's Leah Wood collected a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
The Vikings wasted little time taking control as just 7:47 into the contest they found the back of the net. Wood took a pass from Amy Griffith and lofted the shot over MCLA's Katy Daly for the early 1-0 advantage. SSU would keep the pressure on and Wood would continue to be a catalyst.
In the 18th minute, she booted a perfect long ball that found the foot of CeCelia Cresta-Devine, who was all alone in the box. She sent a shot past a sprawling Daly and it was 2-0 in favor of the Vikings. Salem would add to the lead in the 24th minute when Kelly Birchmore got loose in the box and connected for a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Vikings owned the first half outshooting MCLA 10-0.
Katelyn Krish added a second half goal as she connected from just outside the box on a free kick.
Rachel Ledbetter earned the win in net stopping the only two shots she saw on goal. Daly absorbed the loss collecting 5 saves.
MCLA is back in action next Saturday when they host Fitchburg State at 1pm.
