Trailblazers Come up Short 1-0 Versus Elms
Elms College held on for a 1-0 victory over MCLA this afternoon at Ron Shewcraft field; it's the second straight 1-0 defeat for MCLA at Shewcraft field.

The Trailblazers and Elms played to a scoreless first half tie. Neither team mounted much of an attack in the first half, as Elms had four shots on MCLA goalie Kathryn Daly, while Natalie Caney accounted for all three MCLA shots in the first frame.

Elms came out aggressive immediately in the second half, putting six shots on Daly in the first ten minutes. Elms finally broke through in the fifty-first minute with a goal off the foot of Mackenzie Larochelle.

MCLA recorded their first shot on goal with twenty minutes to play as Jackie Dwyer put one on net and the Trailblazers really controlled the game from that point on.  The Trailblazers had a great chance for the equalizer in the seventy-fifth minute when Courtney Hayer sent Caney in on the Elms keeper Alexa Rinaudo with a defender on her back, Caney lifted a tough angle shot over Rinaudo but it went high.

MCLA had another chance in the eighty-third minute when Lauren Mangiardi put a free kick on goal from about 25 yards out; Rinaudo just got a hand on it to deflect it over the crossbar and preserve the lead. MCLA continued to put pressure on the Blazers who were showing signs of fatigue; but MCLA couldn't get one past Rinaudo.

Jackie Soucia and Brie Voight combined for nine total shots (four on goal) for Elms. Daly made eight saves in defeat.

The Trailblazers have allowed two goals in three games this season defensively.

Elms moves to 3-0 on the season and will travel to Oneonta, N.Y. this weekend to participate in the Erinn Brozman Cup. MCLA falls to 1-2 on the young season and will look to even their record at 2-2 on Saturday at Smith College at 2:00 PM.
