Women's Soccer drops conference opener 2-0 at Bridgewater

Bridgewater, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer team fell on the road 2-0 this afternoon at Bridgewater State in the MASCAC opener for both clubs.  With the win, the Bears even their mark at 3-3 overall and move to 1-0 in conference play.  MCLA drops their fifth straight in falling to 1-5 and 0-1 in the MASCAC.

While the Bears controlled most of the play in the opening half, they couldn't get the ball past MCLA's Katy Daly and the teams went into halftime scoreless.  It didn't take the hosts long to get on the board as they continued the pressure on offense.

In the 64th minute, they'd finally break through when Drew Guay knocked home an Olivia Planty free kick off a deflection giving the Bears the 1-0 edge.  They continued to control the play and put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute when Taylor Loyd corralled a loose ball off the foot of Carolyn Sessler and pushed it past Daly for a 2-0 lead.  The Trailblazers wouldn't threaten over the final minutes.

The Bears outshot MCLA 27-4, including a 17-2 edge over the closing half.  They also held an 11-1 mark in corners.  Lauren DeSousa earned the win to improve to 3-3 in goal for BSU stopping all three shots she saw.

MCLA's Daly suffered the loss stopping 8 shots on the afternoon.

The Trailblazers will look to snap a five game slide on Wednesday when they travel to SUNY Poly.
