Late goal dooms Women's Soccer in 3-2 loss to SUNY Poly

Utica, NY- SUNY Poly's Jenny Maxam scored with just 21 seconds remaining stunning the visiting MCLA Women's soccer program as the Trailblazers fell 3-2 to the Wildcats.  With the win, the Wildcats improve to 4-1-1 on the season while MCLA is now 1-6.

SUNY Poly scored the only goal of the opening half when Brittany Waterbury scored in the 36th minute.  The goal would put the Wildcats on top at the half.  The Trailblazers would eventually tie the game at 1 when Jackie Dwyer tallied in the 56th minute.

The goal broke a five game scoreless streak for the Trailblazers.  Poly then took the lead in the 70th minute when Julia Jaikin scored unassisted.  MCLA would immediately respond though as they scored the equalizer just 1:16 later.  This time, Senior Darien Sullivan took a Kayla Lingel feed and beat Wildcat keeper Angela Bartlett to tie the game at 2-2.

The match would remain that way until the final seconds.  Maxam's goal was the only shot she took all game against Katy Daly of the Trailblazers.

The match was evenly played as SUNY held a 19-12 shot advantage, however they held just a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.  MCLA held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Katy Daly stopped six shots in absorbing the loss for MCLA.  Her counterpart Bartlett ended the night with four saves.

The Trailblazers return to Shewcraft Field on Saturday when they host Salem State at 1pm.
