Daly collects 12 saves, but Women's Soccer shutout at home 3-0 against Worcester

North Adams, MA- The visiting Worcester State women's soccer team received goals from three different players as they remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 victory over MCLA at Shewcraft Field.  The Lancers are now 3-0-1 (6-4-2 overall) in the MASCAC, while the Trailblazers drop to 0-4 in the conference (1-10 overall).

The Lancers struck twice in the opening half after MCLA had a few chances early in the contest.  In the 20th minute, WSU's Kendal Bergenholtz pushed a cross into the middle of the box that Tsara Leblanc headed home giving the Lancers an early 1-0 lead.  The goal was Leblanc's fifth of the season.

After controlling play, the Lancers struck again, this time in the 32nd minute when Alicia Macomber belted home a cross from Briana Moreno making it 2-0 heading towards halftime.  The marker was Macomber's fifth of the season as well.  The score remained that way at halftime.

Worcester kept the pressure up in the second half looking to extend their lead.  A Macomber corner kick was headed toward the net by Justine Butler that MCLA's Courtney Hayer headed off the line in the 70th minute to keep it 2-0.  The Lancers finally scored again in the 78th minute when Bergenholtz slammed home a rebound off an Ashleigh Howland shot that hit the post making it 3-0.

MCLA had a golden opportunity to get on the board in the 82nd minute when Natalie Caney accepted a pass from Marisa Sprague in the box.  Her kick sailed over the crossbar though and the score remained 3-0.

WSU owned a 28-6 shot advantage, including a 16-4 mark on goal.  The Lancers also had the edge in corners 7-1.

Jillian Witkowski earned her 5th win of the season stopping all four shots she saw.

MCLA's Katy Daly stopped 12 shots for the Trailblazers and suffered the loss.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Nichols College at 4pm.
