Women's Soccer season ends with 3-1 MASCAC quarterfinal setback at Bridgewater State

Bridgewater, MA- The third seeded Bridgewater State women's soccer team scored just 71 seconds into tonight's MASCAC quarterfinal game and went on to defeat the sixth seeded MCLA Trailblazers 3-1 at Swenson Field.  With the win, the Bears improve to 10-7-1 and will advance to play second seeded Westfield State Friday night.

MCLA ends their season at 3-13-1.

Bridgewater's Amanda Leite scored the opening goal just 1:11 into the contest converting a cross from Kellsie Mitchell for the early 1-0 advantage.  The marker was Leite's second of the season.  The would increase the lead to 2-0 heading into halftime when Melissa Morton would tally following a long pass from Olivia Planty in the 34th minute.  The Bears controlled the first half outshooting the Trailblazers 8-1 over the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Bears once again found the net early converting in the 46th minute on Marissa Yowell's sixth goal of the season.  She headed home a cross from Leite making it a 3-0 lead for the host Bears.

MCLA wouldn't go quietly though and finally broke through at the 66:00 minute mark.  Kayla Lingel corralled the ball and ripped a shot from the left side that beat Bridgewater's Lauren DeSousa cutting the deficit to 3-1 with still plenty of time to play.

The Bears would regain their composure however, and MCLA wouldn't seriously threaten giving the hosts a trip to the semifinals.

BSU held a commanding 18-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corners.

DeSousa earned her 10th win of the season stopping one shot.  MCLA's Katy Daly absorbed the loss collecting 4 saves.

The game marked the final time wearing a Trailblazer uniform for Alexi Anderson, Jackie Dwyer, Darien Sullivan, and Paige Fairman.
