Holliday nets goal, but MCLA Women's Soccer draws 1-1 with Southern Vermont

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer program met Southern Vermont this evening at Shewcraft Field for the first time since 1999.  The two teams battled for 110 minutes and settled for a 1-1 draw.  The Trailblazers are now 2-3-3 on the season while the Mountaineers are 4-4-2.

After a scoreless first half, the teams continued their defensive ways until late in the contest.  MCLA's Kaylyn Holliday finally broke the drought by converting her second collegiate goal off a nice feed from Natalie Caney in the 78th minute to give MCLA a 1-0 edge.  The lead wouldn't last long however as SVC quickly answered.

In the 80th minute, SVC's Danielle Biggers would collect a pass from Molly Madore and calmly send it past MCLA keeper Meg Richardson tying the game at 1-1.  The marker was the second of the season for Biggers.

The defenses would stand tall over the final ten minutes of regulation and send the game into overtime.  In the extra sessions, SVC would hold a 5-2 shot edge, however many were from long range on both sides and neither team squandered any quality chances.

For the game, MCLA held a 19-12 shot advantage, including an 11-2 edge in the second half.  Both teams had four corner kicks.

Melissa Mascari was outstanding in net for SVC collecting 12 saves on the night.

Richardson stopped four shots for the Trailblazers.

MCLA is back in action at Shewcraft Field on Saturday when they host Westfield State in MASCAC play while the Mountaineers host Newbury on Saturday as well.
