Women's Soccer falls to Falcons in senior day tilt 2-1

North Adams, MA- The visiting Fitchburg State women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the opening 17 minutes and then held off the MCLA Trailblazers 2-1 in a senior day MASCAC tilt played this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  The match was played in tough conditions as rain and wind were both factors throughout the contest.

The Falcons improve to 6-9 on the season, but even their MASCAC mark at 3-3.  The Trailblazers drop to 3-8-4 on the season and sit at 1-4-1 in the conference.

The visiting Falcons wasted little time in getting on the board.  FSU's Shalee Callahan found the back of the net in the 12th minute as she connected off a feed from Victoria Floeck for an early 1-0 lead.  The Falcons would add another marker in the 17th minute when Gabriella Foster lofted a shot outside the eighteen that got over the head of Trailblazer keeper Katy Daly making it 2-0 and it appeared as though the Falcons would cruise.

MCLA would immediately respond however as just 13 seconds later they earned a chance.  Natalie Caney took the long pass off the kickoff and dribbled through the defense.  She was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick.  The senior calmly drilled it into the lower left corner slicing the lead to just 2-1 in favor of Fitchburg.

Neither team could muster up much offense in the second half as the Falcons ended with a modest 10-9 shot advantage while MCLA held a 2-1 mark in corner kicks.

Alexandra Foster would earn the win in goal for Fitchburg stopping a pair of shots.
Katy Daly absorbed the loss for MCLA playing the first half and stopping two shots.  Megan Richardson came off the bench to collect four saves for the Trailblazers.

Prior to the contest, MCLA honored their six seniors playing their final home game at Shewcraft field.  Honored before kickoff were Katy Daly, Marissa Sprague, Kelsey Alfonso, Natalie Caney, Kayla Lingel, and Allyson Ferrell.

The Trailblazers will wrap up the regular season next Saturday when they travel to Framingham State.
