Brooke Mangiardi collects goal but SUNY Poly rallies past women's soccer 2-1

Utica, NY- The SUNY Poly women's soccer team overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit as they rallied past the MCLA Trailblazers 2-1 this evening in non conference action.  With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-1 on the season while MCLA drops to 0-5.

The Trailblazers got on the board first when first year forward Brooke Mangiardi converted her first goal of her career in the sixth minute.  Her marker gave MCLA a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats.  Despite being outshot 18-5, MCLA keeper Megan Richardson kept the hosts off the scoreboard.

The offensive barrage continued in the second half for SUNY Poly and eventually it wore down the MCLA defense.  In the 66th minute, Shannon Harrison converted a pass from McKenna Hungerford to tie the score at 1-1.  Just six minutes later, the Wildcats would convert a turnover and once again Hungerford was in the middle of it.  She sent a perfect through ball forward to a streaking Nakeya Stedman who went in one on one with Richardson.  She would net the game winner in the lower left corner giving the Wildcats a 2-1 edge.

The Wildcats held MCLA without a shot in the second half as they owned a commanding 15-0 edge in shots in the closing 45 minutes of play.

Richardson was outstanding in defeat as she collected 11 saves, many of which were highlight quality.

Angela Bartlett earned the win collecting three first half saves for Poly.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Westfield State for an 11am kickoff.
