Women's Soccer Routs Cobleskill for First Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— Anna Lewis and Addison Gates both scored twice and each added an assist this afternoon leading the MCLA Women's Soccer team to a decisive 7-1 nonconference decision over the visiting SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers at the Zavattaro Athletic Complex. With the result the Trailblazers move to 1-1-1 on the season while Cobleskill falls to 0-3-1.

The Trailblazers dominated possession and carried play for most of the contest. First Year Gwendolyn Duggan got things started scoring her first career goal in the 11th minute to give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage. In the 31st minute Anna Lewis was on the end of an Addison Hayer corner and made it 2-0 on her first goal of the day.

Cidnee Frymire closed the first half scoring punching a perfect cross from Jayde Meribela past the Cobleskill keeper in the 39th minute to give MCLA a comfortable 3-0 lead at the half.

Cobleskill began to make some inroads into MCLA territory in the second half and in the 55th minute their efforts paid off when Jojo Leubner put the Fighting Tigers on the board cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The momentum immediately shifted back in MCLA's favor however and in the 62nd minute the Trailblazers executed a beautiful tic-tac-toe goal with Addison Gates scoring her first on the day with helpers from Lewis and Jenna Bateman to reestablish the three-goal lead at 4-1.

In less than a three-minute span Lewis and Gates each added their second goals to blow the game open make it 6-1 in the 65th minute.

Camryn Belisle capped off the scoring in the 86th minute being sent in alone by Gates then calmly chipping the ball over the keeper's head for her first career goal and the exclamation point on a dominating 7-1 win.

MCLA outshot Cobleskill 32-9 forcing Dory Gosselin (L, 0-2) to make 11 saves in the losing effort. MCLA goalie Eva Eberwein (W, 1-0) registered her first career win stopping three Fighting Tiger shots.

Both teams open up conference play this weekend with Cobleskill travelling to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday and MCLA hosting Framingham State on Friday.
