NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—The MCLA Women's Soccer Team welcomed the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Bloodhounds to Shewcraft Field this evening for a first-ever non-conference matchup between the teams. Under some wet conditions, Olivia Boucher picked up a pair of tallies for the visitors. At the same time, three different Trailblazers found the back of the net in a 5-3 decision for the Bloodhounds.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2024
  • Score: John Jay 5, MCLA 3
  • Records: John Jay Bloodhounds 3-5-1 (CUNYAC 0-0-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 2-8-0 (MASCAC 1-2-0)
  • Series History: This was the first-ever meeting between the teams.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

  • John Jay was the first team on the scoreboard when Olivia Boucher put home the rebound of her own shot in the game's 8th minute.
  • Less than three minutes later, MCLA first-year forward Catelyn Hodge (Schenectady, NY) answered back with a goal off a direct kick from about 30 yards out that was lasered into the lower left corner of the goal in the 11th minute. The goal was Hodge's seventh of the season.
  • The Bloodhounds Morgan Torres wrapped up the scoring in the first half, picking up a goal in the 29th minute with assists credited to Daniela Vazquez and Mikayla Schoch.
  • Graduate student midfielder Anna Lewis (North Monmouth, ME) scored an equalizer for the Trailblazers to open the second half scoring in the 55th minute. Sophomore midfielder Gwendolyn Duggan (Palmer, MA) brought the ball through midfield and sent it ahead to sophomore midfielder Kylie DeMaio (Roxbury, NY), who passed the ball ahead to Lewis, who got just ahead of a defender and got off a shot into the lower right side of the goal ahead of the diving goalkeeper. The goal was Lewis's second of the season, and the assists were the third of the year for both Duggan and DeMaio.
  • John Jay added on three goals in the 63rd, 83rd, and 85th minutes to get out to the game's largest lead at 5-2. The goals were scored by Emma Fisher (63rd minute, assisted by Sophia Arias), Boucher (82nd minute, assisted by Lucia Giangspero), and Anna Wehr (85th minute, assisted by Schoch).
  • With time running out, MCLA did pick up one additional goal in the 87th minute. Junior defender Cinderella Khoury (Waltham, MA) stopped an attempted clear from the Bloodhound defensive end and passed it back into the middle, where it was redirected ahead by first-year forward Lauren Campbell (Bennington, VT) who found DeMaio wide open at the middle of the 18-yard box for a chip shot past an indecisive John Jay keeper. The goal was DeMaio's sixth of the year, and the assists were Campbell's second and Khoury's first.
  • Trailblazers' keeper Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) made multiple acrobatic stops en route to a 12-save showing but still saw their record Fall to 1-8-0. John Jay's Gianna Duarte made one save as she improved her season record to 3-5-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The 12 saves marked Amirian's seventh double-digit save game, including six of her last seven games. The exception is the Trailblazers' 10-0 win at Bay Path, in which she only played six minutes without facing a shot.
