Women’s Soccer Fall Late at VTSU Johnson, 2-1

JOHNSON, Vermont— VTSU Johnson's Olivia Davis scored two late goals to lead the Badgers to a 2-1 nonconference win over the MCLA Women's Soccer team this afternoon at Minaert Field. With the result the Badgers improve to 6-4-1 (2-1-0 NAC) while the Trailblazers fall to 2-10-0 (1-3-0 MASCAC)
Following a scoreless first half in which MCLA keeper Destiny Alexandra Rivas (L, 1-2-0) made six of her seven total saves, the Trailblazers were finally able to break through in the 47th minute thanks to Kylie DeMaio's 6th goal of the season.
Catelyn Hodge played a through-ball to the left side of the goal where Anna Lewis collected then connected on a perfect cross to DeMaio who punched it past Badger keeper Isabel Atkinson (W, 1-0-0) to put the visitors up 1-0.
MCLA's lead would hold until the 72nd minute when Johnson midfielder Olivia Davis tied the contest at 1-1. In the 81st minute Davis struck again as the sophomore's 7th goal of the season proved to be the difference leading the hosts to a 2-1 nonconference victory over the Trailblazers.
Though Johnson enjoyed a decided 8-1 advantage in corners, the Badgers only outshot the Trailblazers 14-12.
Both teams get back to conference play this weekend as Johnson visits SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday and MCLA travels to Salem State on Saturday for a 3pm MASCAC tilt.
