Tennis drops NAC opener to Johnson State 7-2

Pittsfield, MA- Visiting Johnson State earned a 7-2 victory in Women's Tennis over the Trailblazers in a match played indoors at Berkshire West Athletics Center in Pittsfield, MA.  The match was the season opener for MCLA, the newest member of the NAC conference. 

Johnson improves to 1-2 on the season, but is now 1-0 in the NAC.

Sarah Murphy earned a point for MCLA in the number one singles slot along with Danielle Wiencek in the fourth singles slot.  Murphy earned a straight set 6-2, 6-2 victory over Emily Miller for the Trailblazers.  Wiencek defeated Kate Murphy 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 in the match of the day.  The tiebreaker was a game scored to ten points earning Wiencek the win.

The match seemed to turn on the number five doubles match where Stephanie Giardina locked up with Alyssa Greene.  Greene won in straight sets 7-6, 7-5 as it gave Johnson a 4-2 lead following the singles competition.

Johnson swept the doubles matches to complete the victory.

MCLA is back at it tomorrow when they host Bay Path at 1pm.
