Trailblazers rally past St. Joseph for first win of season in Women's Tennis

West Hartford, CT- The MCLA Trailblazers rallied from a 3-0 deficit following doubles, to defeat St. Joseph (CT) 5-4 this afternoon in Women's Tennis action.  MCLA is now 1-4 on the season, while the Blue Jays are now 1-7.

The win also marked the first victory for MCLA Head Coach Holly McGovern.

MCLA dropped all three doubles matches, although the team of Laura Laureano and Sarah Cowdell battled before losing 9-7 in the pro style set.  Down 3-0 entering singles play, MCLA took a trio of three set victories to stem the tide.

In the top slot, Trailblazer Sarah Murphy outpaced Lisa Wawrzynowski 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1) to earn a point.  The second and third singles matches also went three sets.  Megan Holmes defeated Amanda Willhoft, dropping the opening set 3-6 before rallying and winning the next two 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).  Laureano continued the trend needing three sets to defeat April Loteczka 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8).

Stephanie Giardina and Cowdell also earned singles victories as Giardina won 6-2, 6-4 and Cowdell cruised 6-0, 6-0.

MCLA will now head into a rare conference doubleheader on Saturday when they travel to Colby Sawyer.  The Trailblazers will also battle Thomas (ME).
