Deaso, Gawron lead Women's tennis past Sage 5-3

Troy, NY- The MCLA women's tennis program rebounded from a tough loss on Tuesday with a 5-3 non league win on the road over the Sage Gators this afternoon.  The Trailblazers move about .500 for the season as they are currently 4-3 overall.

MCLA took control early by sweeping the doubles matches.  Mariza Sfakianaki and Emily Deaso won 8-4 in the top slot, while the freshmen duo of Briana Higgins and Sarah Hachadoorian continue their solid play with an 8-5 win in the second doubles match.

Samantha Gawron and Anna Despart worked hard to pull out a 9-7 decision to sweep the doubles points.

In singles, Deaso defeated Sage's Melissa Estremera 7-5, 7-6 to notch her second point of the afternoon.  Gawron kept her winning streak going by earning a 6-4, 6-2 win in the fourth singles slot to clinch the match for MCLA.

Sfakianaki's number one singles match was halted due to darkness tied at one set apiece.

MCLA is back in conference action on Saturday when they travel to Johnson State for a 1pm tilt.
