Tennis clinches NAC playoff berth with 8-1 win over Thomas
Waterville, ME- The MCLA tennis program clinched a spot in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament with a resounding 8-1 win over Thomas this afternoon. With the win, MCLA improves to 4-5 ov4rall and finishes at 4-3 in the league.
MCLA will go on to face Colby Sawyer next weekend in the opening round of the championships.
The Trailblazers swept through the doubles action to go ahead 3-0. Mariza Sfakianaki and Sam Gawron won a hard fought 9-7 match in the top slot. Teammates Briana Higgins and Ashley Juskhas won 8-3 in the second doubles match while Lauren Kexel and Katherine Grill won by the same score heading into singles play.
Sfakianaki handled Olivia Mora 6-3, 7-5 in the number one singles match while Gawron would earn a 6-1, 6-3 win over Irune Arruti Moreno.
Higgins would earn the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sadie Farrand. Juskhas and Grill would also earn points as MCLA closed out the match.
The Trailblazers will head out to face the Chargers next Saturday at a time to be determined.
