MCLA sweeps Tri Match with Mass Maritime and Becker, win third straight

Buzzards Bay, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers volleyball team notched their third straight victory as they swept a tri match this afternoon, dispatching of Becker College 3-1 before earning their first MASCAC win of the season in a 3-0 sweep of Mass. Maritime. 

MCLA improves to 7-14 overall, 1-3 in conference play.

In the opener against Becker, MCLA sprinted out of the gates to a 25-15 first set victory before settling for a 25-19 win in the second.  Becker forced a fourth set as they won the third easily at 25-13.  The Trailblazers would settle down though, eventually winning the fourth and final set 25-20.

Angelica Perfido continued her recent string of strong play as she collected 9 kills, 4 aces, and 9 digs.  Brittany Kish added 7 kills, a team high 24 assists, and 4 digs.  Kelley Bryant had a strong defensive effort with a team best 26 digs for MCLA. 

In the nightcap, MCLA claimed their first MASCAC win of the season in three sets.  The Trailblazers took game one in commanding fashion 25-9.  They would follow that up with a 25-15 win in set two.  The Trailblazers won the final set 25-15.

In the closing set, MCLA took command with a 9-0 run after MMA led 5-4.  Samantha Barbarotta was on point during the run, notching three aces to set the tone.

MCLA racked up a season high in aces after collecting 29 aces on the afternoon.

Courtney Parent had a team high 11 assists and 8 aces in the win.  Barbarotta finished with six kills to lead the Trailblazers.

MCLA is back in action on Thursday night as they host Lyndon State at 7pm.
