MCLA drops MASCAC Volleyball tilt to Westfield State 3-0
North Adams, MA- The visiting Westfield State Owls battled the MCLA Trailblazers this evening in a MASCAC Volleyball match. The Owls swept the Trailblazers 3-0 to improve to 15-12 overall and 5-0 in the conference. MCLA falls to 9-15 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The Owls took the opening game in convincing fashion 25-7. Westfield had a balanced attack in the opener as Casey Doremus had a team best three kills in the opening game while Julia Warner added a pair. MCLA was hurt by 9 attack errors in the opening set.
Westfield continued its strong play in the second set. With the Owls holding a slim 10-8 lead, they ripped off four straight points to seize control. MCLA would get no closer than four the rest of the way and the Owls prevailed 25-17. Lindsay Rescott and Warner had five and four kills respectively in the second game.
In set three, the Owls pulled away after a 6-6 tie in the opening volleys. Westfield used a 10-3 spurt to grab a comfortable 16-7 lead and eventually win the set 25-14.
Doremus led the Owls with 8 kills on 14 attempts. Warner and Rescott each finished the night with 7 kills each. Carolyn Cote notched 25 assists, while Warner was the top defender with 19 digs.
MCLA was led by Rachel Mills' 7 kills. Amanda Fleming chipped in with 9 digs.
MCLA will travel to Daniel Webster for a tri-match with Becker this Saturday.
