MCLA falls in five sets to visiting Cobleskill

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Volleyball team dropped a five set match with visiting SUNY Cobleskill (26-24,24-26,17-25, 25-20,15-13) this evening in the Amsler Campus Center Gym. With the win Cobleskill improve to 12-18 a while the Trailblazers fall to 10-17.

In the opening set, Cobleskill opened up a 13-6 lead, however MCLA rallied behind the service of Kendra Hobbs.  The Trailblazers reeled off 9 straight points to take a 15-13 lead using kills from Julia Christian and Sam Anderson in the process.  The back and forth set would ultimately go to Cobleskill as they would score the final four set points to claim it 26-24, sealing it with a Kady Porterfield kill.

MCLA down 18-13 in the second set would come back and capitalize on Cobleskill errors to win 26-24. Jackie Paluilis put MCLA down one serving three aces. Courtney Parent would secure the win by serving the final point and recording her only ace of the set. Defensively, Paluilis and Kendra Hobbs recorded 4 digs.

Using the momentum from the second set MCLA took a commanding 8-4 lead and never looked back winning the third set 25-17. They were led by Rachel Mills 6 kills on 8 attempts and Allie Chang's 4 kills on 9 attempts. Hobbs again racked up the digs collecting 9.

The fourth set was a back and forth volley with Cobleskill winning 25-20. MCLA would rally to tie the score at 20 causing Cobleskill to call a timeout. After the timeout Cobleskill would go on to score three consecutive points forcing MCLA to call a timeout.  Coming out of the time out Cobleskill would score the next two points to win the set. They were led by Porterfield who had 3 kills and Amber Baker's 10 digs.

In an intense fifth set Cobleskill came away with the win and secure the match win. They came out to take a 4-1 led before MCLA pulled within two points but MCLA couldn't get over the barrier. Cobleskill score the next three points to cap off the win. Cobleskill was led by Baker's 3 kills.

MCLA was led on the evening by Mills 11 kills and Paluilis' 29 digs and 4 aces.

Porterfield and Baker had a team high 15 kills and Baker tallied 31 digs.

MCLA will be back in action on Saturday as they host Bridgewater State for their final home game.
