MCLA captures share of first MASCAC title with 3-0 win over Bears

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Volleyball program has put together a historic season.  The Trailblazers capped off the campaign with a MASCAC clinching 3-0 defeat over the visiting Bridgewater State University Bears to earn a share of their first ever MASCAC regular season championship.  With the win, MCLA is now 22-9 on the season, a school record, and will host the MASCAC championships next weekend as the top seed after going 5-1 in conference play.

Adding to the historic campaign was the fact that this marked the first time in school history that MCLA has defeated the Bears.  

The Trailblazers will now enter the MASCAC tournament as the top seed as they shared the MASCAC regular season crown with Framingham State.  The Trailblazers however, defeated the Rams in early October giving them the tiebreaker and hosting the tournament.

MCLA battled through a tough opening set to defeat BSU 25-23.  They would close out the Bears by winning 25-18 and 25-19 earning the victory.

Allison Clark was outstanding as she collected a double double effort of 18 kills and 13 digs in the win.  Sam Anderson ended the day with 9 kills for MCLA.  Courtney Parent set up the offense with 22 assists, while Brittney Pihl and Angelica Perfido ended with 14 and 13 digs respectively.

For the Bears, they were paced on offense by Clara Goncalves' 9 kills.  Sydney Bennett added 8 kills while Charleyne Panner collected 27 assists and 10 digs in defeat.

The Bears fall to 12-19 overall and finish 3-3 in conference play.  They will enter the MASCAC tournament as the fourth seed and host a MASCAC Quarterfinal game on Wednesday evening.

Prior to the match, MCLA honored their seniors playing their final regular season contest.  The Trailblazers honored Morgan McCarthy, Courtney Parent, and Angelica Perfido.
