Volleyball drops a pair of games to open Union Tournament

Schenectady, NY- The MCLA Volleyball team dropped a pair of games in the Union College tournament Friday night.  The Trailblazers lost to Mount Ida 3-1 in the opener before falling to New Rochelle 3-0 in the nightcap.  

MCLA is now 2-8 on the season and will continue the tournament with a pair of games today.

In the opener with Mount Ida, MCLA got off to a good start by taking set one 25-23.  The Mustangs would rally in the second to win 25-23 before closing out the match with set wins of 25-20 and 25-17 to earn the win.

Brianne O'Rourke, Melissa Hopkins, Maggie Allen, Alyssa Keegan, and Sara LaFreniere all had five kills on the afternoon.  Tessa Sestito led with 11 assists while Natasha Stewart added 9.

Mele Enomoto led the defense with 10 digs.

In the nightcap, New Rochelle took the first two sets 25-17 before squeaking out the third set 26-24 to earn the sweep.

Allen and LaFreniere had 8 kills in the setback while O'Rourke added 7.

Tayler Wiese and Sestito each collected 11 assists while Enomoto added 10 more digs.

The Trailblazers face Union and Mount Saint Vincent today starting at 11am.
