DELHI, N.Y.—The MCLA Volleyball Team took to the road this afternoon for a pair of non-conference matches this afternoon at SUNY Delhi. The Trailblazers opened the day against the host Broncos before finishing their day against the Paul Smith's College Bobcats.

MATCH #1:

  • Date: Saturday, September 21, 202X
  • Score: MCLA 3, SUNY Delhi 2
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 2-8 (MASCAC 0-0) | SUNY Delhi Broncos 3-10 (NAC 0-0)
  • Series History: The Trailblazers lead the all-time series between the teams 6-0, including 3-0 home victories in their last meeting on September 22, 2023, and in their first-ever meeting on October 17, 2015.

HIGHLIGHTS (Game #1)

  • MCLA took the first set 25-18 on the strength of a 10-4 run to open the match, which included three kills from senior right-side hitter Chloie Garber (Eagle River, AK). The Trailblazers then closed out the set with a 4-1 run.
  • SUNY Delhi took the second and third sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-20 before MCLA forced a winner-take-all fifth set, rolling through the fourth set 25-12.
  • The fifth set was a back-and-forth set with seven ties before the Trailblazers closed it out with a 4-0 run. The run included kills from sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Gray (Windham, CT) and junior outside hitter Audrey Melson (Champlin Park, MN), and a service ace by sophomore setter Beth Harris (San Antonio, TX).

  • Score: MCLA 0, PSC 3
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 2-9 (MASCAC 0-0) | Paul Smith's College Bobcats 4-5 (YSCC 3-2)
  • Series History: This was the first-ever meeting between the teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game #2)

  • Despite taking the match in straight sets, Paul Smith's College win was much tighter than the final score would appear because MCLA scored 20+ points in all three sets.
  • The Bobcats took the first set 25-23, the second 25-20, and the final set 25-23.
  • PSC's Finnley Jacobson led all players with 14 kills and chipped in 15 digs and a game-high three service aces. Kaliyah Davis paced the Bobcats with 18 digs, while Alli Cherry led the team with 14 assists.
  • Melson led the Trailblazers with a team-high 11 kills on 24 attacks, good for a .417 hitting percentage. Senior libero Ezmeralda Albright (Loves Park, IL) stood out on the defensive end for MCLA, picking up a game-high 20 digs, while sophomore setter MaKayla Schuerer (Lee, MA) chipped in with 18. First-year setter Addison Decaro (Eagle River, AK) led the Trailblazers with 15 assists and two service aces.

UP NEXT:

On Wednesday, MCLA will be back in action when they travel to Russell Sage for a non-conference matchup with the Gators at Robison Court at the Kahl Campus Center. The teams will take the court for a 6 p.m. start.
