NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— The MCLA Volleyball Team welcomed the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers to the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium for a non-conference matchup this evening. The Trailblazers swept away the Fighting Tigers behind a game-high ten kills by Chloie Garber and five service aces for Elizabeth Brown.

  • Series History: MCLA leads the all-time series 14-7, including an active five-game winning streak for the Trailblazers. MCLA won the last meeting 3-2 on September 1st of last season. The teams first met on October 27, 1977, when The Fighting Tigers took a 2-1 victory at SUNY Cobleskill.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA took the game in straight sets by scores of 25-9, 25-18, and 25-20.
  • The first set was highlighted by four kills on four attacks from sophomore middle hitter Makenna Carter (Averill Park, NY), paired with three assisted blocks, accounting for 5.5 of the Trailblazer's points in the first set. Carter would finish the match with five kills on six attacks and an .833 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman setter Addison Decaro (Eagle River, AK) picked up seven of her team-high 22 assists in the first set before adding eight in the second set and seven in the final set.
  • In the second set, senior right-side Chloie Garber (Eagle River, AK) collected four of her team-high 10 kills. The set opened with a 5-0 run by the Trailblazers. This was also the most back-and-forth of the sets, including four tie scores and two lead changes before being closed out by the hosts on a 13-5 run.
  • While the third set was the most competitive of the night, MCLA still led from the start, opening with a 4-0 run that included a pair of service aces by Decaro. Senior libero Ezmeralda Albright (Loves Park, IL) picked up seven of her team-high 14 digs in the final set.
  • Junior outside hitter Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA) finished the night with a game-high five service aces and was just one kill behind Garber for the team lead in kills, finishing with nine.

UP NEXT:

On Tuesday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to Westfield State for a MASCAC matchup with the Owls in the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. start.
