MCLA honors John and Jane Allen at Golf Classic, nets $20,000 for Athletics

The MCLA Athletics Department held the 13th annual Golf Classic at Berkshire Hills Country Club on Monday, September 21.  Nearly a full field of 140 golfers teed off in the event, which is a fundraiser for the Athletics Department.  The honorees for the event were Jane Allen '61 and John Allen M.Ed. '65.

The 18-hole scramble event was held at scenic Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.  The President's Club Title sponsor for the event was Time Warner Cable.  The festivities kicked off with a barbecue luncheon at 11a.m., followed by the noon shotgun start.  Following golf, a banquet was held honoring both Jane and John Allen.  Jane earned her bachelor's degree from MCLA.  She has been a tremendous supporter of the College and recently was named chair of the Board of Trustees.  John is a legendary coach in Northern Berkshire County, coaching Mt. Greylock's football team for 35 years.  For their service and dedication to the College, MCLA President Mary Grant presented the Allen's with a plaque recognizing their commitment to the institution and Berkshire County. 

The event has become a staple in the fundraising efforts of the Athletics Department.  The 2009 classic wasn't any different.  The tournament netted the department just over $20,000.

The winner of the gross division was an alumni team of Dennis Zicko '65, Tim Carroll '65, Bob Linton '65 and Steven McGonagle.

The winner of the net division was the Arrow Press team of Bob Nackoul, Tom Basile, Bill Ryan, and Steve Romano.
